Second appointment with the Umbria Fashion column, which takes us step by step to the October event.
Umbrian craftsmanship has set a precedent, even if today it is difficult to find new artisans, such as menderers and embroiderers. For this reason, it would be essential to introduce a new training project that connects companies with the higher education institutions present in the area.
With the Umbria Fashion event (a format I created in 2023) I wanted to send a message to institutions, businesses, training areas and also to families; a message that speaks of the potential of Umbrian textile companies; of qualified, creative and remunerative work, and which includes new professional profiles such as those related to mechatronics and requested by companies that renew the production process thanks to the incentives of the Industry 4.0 Plan.
The innovation of Made in Umbria textiles has a further aspect: that of sustainability, increasingly important in this sector, which drives the training of qualified professional figures to be included in textile and clothing companies.
In the coming years, companies in the sector will need young people who are prepared and have the skills to quickly enter the production system: structures such as Institutes of Excellence in the world of fashion constitute a strong link in the business/school system, through which to team up to provide students with the knowledge, tools and specific skills required by the constantly changing world of work.
In the vision of greater artistic-cultural integration, it becomes interesting, within the context of Moda Made in Umbria, to connect different but similar sectors in the local culture, working together to associate them, driving the economy of the region: sectors such as tourism, agri-food, ceramics and artistic glass techniques, but also forged metal and leather that are central to the creation of the fashion accessory dedicated to knitwear. A Made in Umbria to promote the territory as a system of excellence, to accompany the Made in Italy that the whole world envies us.
